Deadly DUI Accidents in Jasper County Lead to Felony Charges

Two separate car accidents in Jasper County on January 19, 2025, resulted in tragic fatalities, with both drivers now facing felony DUI charges. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, these crashes occurred within hours of each other, a prime example of the devastating consequences of impaired driving.

The first crash happened around midnight on Cypress Branch Road, eight miles west of Pineland. A 2016 BMW Sedan carrying five people ran off the road, overturned, and struck a tree. Passenger Tyrin Brooks, 39, of Estill, died after being transported to a local hospital. The driver, Ashley Q. Brooks, 38, also of Estill, was charged with felony Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

Just a few hours later, around 3 a.m., another accident occurred on Interstate 95 near Ridgeland. A 2016 Audi Sedan, driven by Malik Mitchell, 33, of Ridgeland, left the roadway and overturned several times. Passenger Quandashi Busby, 27, was killed. Mitchell was also charged with felony DUI.
